The SD Memory Card Formatter software is designed to format SD Memory Cards, including SDHC and SDXC cards, according to the SD File System Specification developed by the SD Association (SDA).

It is highly recommended to use the SD Memory Card Formatter for formatting SD/SDHC/SDXC cards instead of using the built-in formatting tools found in operating systems.

While these tools can format various types of storage media, including SD cards, they may not be optimized for SD/SDHC/SDXC cards, potentially leading to reduced performance.

SD/SDHC/SDXC cards include a “Protected Area” for security features, which is not formatted by the SD Memory Card Formatter. This area requires a specialized PC application or an SD host device with SD security functionality to format.

Additionally, the tooldoes not support SD cards encrypted with Windows' "BitLocker To Go." If your SD card is encrypted, ensure it is unlocked before formatting.
