PES 2016 (also called Pro Evolution Soccer 2016) is a fifteenth edition of the popular football simulation game was developed by PES Productions and released to the public by Konami in late 2015 as the fifteenth edition of the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise.

Built on top of the successes made in the previous releases, this game managed to capture a brand new audience by focusing on expanding its roster of officially licensed teams, a faithful recreation of the stadiums from all around the world, and promoting the seamless integration of the world’s largest football leagues such as UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup.

In this game, the special attention was given to the then-popular UEFA Euro 2016 competition, which was added as a free update to the base game in late March of 2016.

The gameplay of PES 2016 was dramatically enhanced with better animation and ball-handling physics, with the focus on responsive and dynamic control of the players on the field that can often lead to very realistic physical collisions.

The entire visual presentation of the game was also enhanced to even more resemble real TV broadcasts, with 16 officially licensed realistic stadiums (and many more unlicensed or generic stadiums) that were recreated with the latest rendering technologies. The content was also enhanced with the addition of new teams, national teams, and leagues.

After the game was released to the public, the game was updated for free four times for free, enabling the game to remain up to date with the leagues that were in the progress and adding new teams, player likenesses, new player and ball customization options, updated player rosters, a full UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, and much more.

The only notable negative response of media and fans was targeted toward the brand new match commentary team, which was criticized for excessive repetitions.

Today, after several years on the market, PES 2016 represents one of the best-reviewed games from this franchise. It still remains popular among the fans of the franchise, and one of the last releases where Pro Evolution Soccer franchise managed to provide strong competition to the other games from the soccer simulation genre.
