How to Use

1. Download and Install: Visit the official website or FileHorse.com to download the desktop app compatible with your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

2. Create an Account: If you don't have a MEGA account, sign up by providing your email address and creating a password. Verify your email to activate the account.

3. Log In: Open the Desktop App and enter your login credentials to access your cloud storage.

4. Set Up Sync:

Full Sync: Synchronizes your entire cloud drive with a local folder on your computer.

Selective Sync: Allows you to choose specific folders to sync between your computer and the cloud.

5. Manage Files:

Upload: Drag and drop files into the local folder to upload them to the cloud.

Download: Access files from your cloud drive directly through the local folder on your computer.

Share: Right-click on a file or folder, select 'Get MEGA link,' and share the generated link with others.

6. Access Settings: Click on the app icon in your system tray to adjust preferences, manage sync settings, and monitor transfer progress.

Before you download

Before you download it, if you use the desktop app on multiple machines, you must install the same version across all computers to avoid errors.

  • Install the latest app version on all computers

Can I use MEGA for free?
Yes! The free plan includes 20 GB of storage. You can upgrade to our Pro plans for more storage and transfer quota, and extra features like more security for your links.

How does MEGA sync my files?
The desktop app keeps your local and cloud files identical. During startup, it scans for changes in both locations and compares them. While running, it processes real-time updates, ensuring that changes (e.g., edits, uploads, deletions) are mirrored between your local computer and MEGA Cloud.

How much storage would I need?
Documents don’t take up much space, but media files like photos and videos do. If you’re planning on securely storing a lot of files, especially large ones, then one of Pro plans would be best for your needs.

How do I set up multiple syncs?
You can configure syncs during installation or later in the Sync tab of the app settings. Options include syncing your entire Cloud drive with one folder or linking specific local folders to cloud folders. Adding or removing syncs doesn’t delete the data from either location.

What’s the difference between sync and backup?

Sync: A two-way process where changes in one location (local or cloud) are mirrored in the other.

Backup: A one-way process that only copies data from your computer to MEGA, with no updates made from MEGA back to your computer.
