Free Backgammon is one of the best recreations of this popular board game on the Windows OS platform.

Built from the ground up to run easily on almost every PC you can find around you today, Free Backgammon represents one of the best ways you can experience this fun board game, no matter if you are alone and wish to be challenged by the built-in opponent AI, or you want to engage in a contest against a living opponent in your room.

The rules of the game are unchanged from the regular version that can be played today, and were played for centuries and millennia, all the way back to ancient Mesopotamia where this game was originally conceived. The rules that revolve around luck and strategy are centered around the play area with twenty-four triangles, two roll dices, and 15 checkers per player.

  • Three difficulty levels
  • Multicore processors support
Free Backgammon was built singlehandedly by developer Jorge Pardo Serrano and optimized for all versions of Windows OS. It features three difficulty levels for the built-in CPU AI, eye-catching 3D visuals with HD textures, and built-in support for multicore processors.

The entire game weighs in at a little bit just over 3 MB in size, enabling anyone to quickly download it and install it on their desktop or laptop PC. The game comes with its own automated installer that will guide you through the entire setup procedure with few simple on-screen instructions. Once installed, it can be played in either short bursts or long play sessions.

The important thing to note is that the game has only one input method for manipulation of checkers and dices (a regular PC mouse or touch detection on touchscreen tablets and laptops with trackpads), without the option to customize it or rebind it to a controller or keyboard buttons.

Due to its low system requirements, Free Backgammon can be played on any PC that can run Windows XP and any newer version of this OS. In fact, the system requirements are so low that the game does not even require a dedicated GPU card. It can be fully rendered by your CPU, without stressing your system and causing performance issues for other apps.
