Escape the Backrooms is a popular indie survival horror game that was released in the summer of 2022 by the development team at Fancy Games.



The game empowers players of all skill levels to embark on a terrifying journey through a seemingly endless maze of interconnected rooms, known as the Backrooms, both in solo and 4-player cooperative modes.

Instead of focusing on combat, this innovative horror title empowers players to dedicate themselves to exploration, puzzle solving, and experiencing unexpected environmental storytelling that dynamically reacts to players' moves.



Key Features

Escape the Backrooms for Windows 11/10 moves away from the regular survivor horror formula by eliminating almost all combat elements and instead enables players to become immersed in the eerie and suspenseful environments of the hallway complex that morphs just beyond the corners of their vision.

Featuring 15 unique levels and a wide array of dangerous entities that will haunt the players across the campaign and last around 4 to 5 hours on average, Escape the Backrooms can provide players with incredibly atmospheric gameplay that will test their senses and cause them to become afraid after taking just a few steps.



The cooperative element introduces a few more gameplay differences from the standard survival horror genre formula. Instead of always bunching up together, cooperative players are encouraged to explore and find their own exits from the Backroom environment. The game allows only one player at a time to finish the level, so the remaining survivors must continue exploring until all of them find their own exit.

One of the game's standout features is its procedural generation. Each playthrough of the game is different, with randomly generated layouts and creature placements that ensure a unique experience every time players step into the world of Backrooms.

This adds to the game's replay value, as players can continue to explore the Backrooms and discover new secrets and dangers with each playthrough.



The only negative element of this title is its harsh difficulty. Due to the randomized environment and aggressive enemy entities, new players will frequently die and be forced to restart the level because the game features no built-in save system.
