Battle Realms is a popular real-time strategy game originally released on the Windows PC platform in the year 2001, just after the exploding popularity of RTS juggernaut franchises of Command & Conquer, StarCraft, and Warcraft.

Developed from the ground up by Ed Del Castillo who has personally overseen the rise of the C&C RTS franchise, Battle Realms transports the players into the fantastical universe that pays homage to many popular martial arts movies and oriental culture.

Similarly to many other RTS games from that period, it promotes the use of several different factions that all feature widely different defensive and offensive capabilities, with core gameplay systems that promote unit development, tactical gameplay, and smart resource management that is needed to tackle numerous battle scenarios.

Main Features

Immediately on its original release date, fans of this genre and worldwide media have praised this title for the smart implementation of RTS game systems that force players to think fast, make impactful decisions, and organize their limited resources into a powerful mix that can produce enough offensive/defensive might to surpass the efforts of all opponents.

Battle Realms promotes synergies between combat units, has a wide variety of combat options and stylish combat animations, and a resource management system that focuses on the availability of peasant workers.

Those workers can be tasked with various objectives, from gathering resources to building structures and even training to morph into active combat troops.

Due to these innovative elements, all players must maintain a careful balance of units. Since no structure can actively produce combat troops, they must always have enough peasant workers at hand and accompanying structures that are used to transform them into various combat troop types.

It also features elements such as a Yin/Yang system (points that are rewarded depending on moral alliances to the forces of light and darkness), highly capable Zen Master hero units, and an extensive combat system that keeps track of several types of offensive abilities - cutting, piercing, blunt, explosive, magic, or fire damage.
